About this data

This is a filtered view of Best-Selling Video Game Consoles of All Time (59 rows). The ranking, console names, manufacturers, types, release years and unit figures are transcribed from Wikipedia's "List of best-selling game consoles" (text available under CC BY-SA 4.0; page last edited 2026-09-06, fetched 2026-10-02), which cites each figure to a manufacturer statement or trade press source. Rank follows Wikipedia's ordering. Figures are worldwide sell-in (units shipped to retail) or sell-through as reported by each maker; methodologies differ, so cross-era comparisons are approximate. For the current generation we fetched the primary pages on 2026-10-02: Nintendo IR "Dedicated Video Game Sales Units" (Switch 156.59 million, Switch 2 23.68 million, Wii U 13.56 million, 3DS 75.94 million, all as of 2026-06-30) and Sony Interactive Entertainment "Business Data & Sales" (PS5 more than 95 million as of 2026-06-30 with quarterly sell-in summing to 95.3 million; PS4 more than 117 million as of 2022-06-30; PS3, PS2 and PS1 as of March 2017/2012). All matched Wikipedia, so no figure was overwritten. Microsoft does not publish Xbox unit sales; Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S rows are third-party estimates and Xbox 360 is a 2014 company statement. "Discontinued" is derived from Wikipedia's "currently on the market" marker, and "Maker-reported" is true only where the figure comes from the console maker's own IR page, press release or financial statement. The as-of column is blank where the cited source gives no date. Wikipedia flags six rows as minimums (final sales greater than shown). Generation is not on the source pages and is omitted rather than inferred.
